Welcome to The Water Quality Visual Art & Poetry Contest for middle school age youth in Salt Lake County (6, 7, 8th grade)
ENTRIES ARE DUE may 8, 2025
Expressions of understanding of watersheds,
water quality, and the relationship with water
that maintains all life through
original creations of poetry and visual art.
Contest Rules and Information:
All entries must be submitted through the SLCo Stormwater Coalition Water Quality Contest Portal on or before May 8, 2025.
The contest is open to students in 6, 7, and 8th grade who live in Salt Lake County. As long as youth are within the specified grades, they may participate as part of any school, afterschool program, club, library, youth group, or other organization, or individually.
All submissions must include a signed parent permission form (may be found in the Contest Portal).
Youth may submit one entry in art and one in poetry, but a separate entry form must be completed for each of those two submissions.
Central themes of the contest include: Water, a Precious Resource; Urban Stormwater Runoff; Drinking Water; Wastewater Treatment; and Water Stewardship.
Poetry must be either typed or legibly written. If hand written, please take a photo, save as a .jpg or .png file and attach in the Contest Portal. If typed, the file submitted must be in .docx or .pdf file format.
Visual Art entries must be submitted digitally/electronically by attaching a photo image of the artwork in the Contest Portal. Please take a photo of the artwork, saved as a .jpg, .png or .pdf file. File size must be smaller than 5MB. Acceptable media are paint, pencil, markers, ink, crayon, chalk or pastel, photography, cloth, collage, and computer art. Please take the photo in adequate light and do not use a filter.
Collaborative poems or artwork are accepted, but only a the monetary value of a single prize and/or certificate will be presented for the group to share.
Entries are judged by category: 1) Visual Art and 2) Poetry. All Contest Judge’s decisions are final.
PRIZES:
A 1st Prize ($100 Amazon Gift Card) , 2nd Prize ($50 Amazon Gift Card), and 3rd Prize ($25 Amazon Gift Card) will be awarded in each category of Visual Art and Poetry.
Contest winners will be announced online at the SLCo Stormwater Coalition Annual Virtual Water Quality Fair at on December 11th at 10:30 a.m on WebEx. The award announcement will be repeated at 3:00 p.m. on May 15th on the SLCo Stormwater Coalition’s Facebook Page.
By entering, you acknowledge that any and/or all entries may be displayed on Salt Lake County Stormwater Coalition Social Media, on the Coalition website, and at community galleries throughout the year.
All entries must be accompanied by a fully and completed, signed parent/guardian permission form. An electronic copy or photo must be attached within the Contest Portal .
